Management for designers / IBD

From a brief to a project
you can deliver.

I prepared a course that works with the designers’ own projects. The course plan builds toward four working artifacts.

  1. 01 / Course artifact

    A task board

A chosen working method, a backlog and visible work in progress.

    Backlog / Doing / Review / Done
  2. 02 / Course artifact

    A role map

Make responsibility visible before the work is handed over.

    Roles / Responsibilities
  3. 03 / Course artifact

    A brief with acceptance criteria

Agree what needs to be made and how it will be accepted.

    Brief / Acceptance
  4. 04 / Course artifact

    A work breakdown

Split the work into tasks and estimate it in hours.

into work you can see.

  1. 01

    Build the backlog

Collect what the project needs. The lesson starts with ten to fifteen cards.

  2. 02

    Break down “make a website”

Ask whether the card is a task or a whole project. Split it into smaller pieces of work.

  3. 03

    Put the work in order

Choose what comes first and explain why.

  4. 04

    Limit work in progress

Keep one or two cards in Doing. Discuss why starting everything at once makes work harder to finish.
